You Know What You Need To Do!

Cleaning Kit

Time is truly on our hands right now, at least for a large percentage of the population. So what do we do besides stare at the TV, work on the landscaping, wash the car, or work on that honey-do list?

Come on, you know you’ve put it off for way too long. Yes, it’s a perfect time to clean the guns (sound of doom heard)! Me: But no, wait, I don’t have time, er, um, well, I guess I do have time. Yes, you do, so let’s pull out all the hardware, get the cleaning kits out, clear all the firearms to be sure they are safe and roll up your sleeves.

Having a large table in my work space makes things much easier for me, so the first thing I do is lay out two bath towels my wife doesn’t know I lifted, and place all the unloaded weapons on top. For a cleaning kit, I use an old, fairly large sized tackle box that was handed down to me by my Dad. It has multiple small slots that are lined with cork, likely for lures at one time. This box is filled with gun oil, cleaner, brushes, patches and rods of all sorts and sizes. Also, it has specialty tools for taking apart and inspecting different weapons.

Having all the weapons in one place, allows for the cleaning process to become more like an assembly line, and boy, when you’re done, it sure gives you that sense of accomplishment.

P.S. When all the weapons are laid out, it might be a good time to take a photo of them for insurance reasons.

  1. Dan, great article and a great reminder. I just need even MORE motivation to do this! For some reason, I just hate it…… It’s a good time to teach the wife how to clean guns!
